The Arabian Horse Show in Scottsdale is one of the premier events in the US, showcasing the Arabian horse breed. From modest beginnings in 1955, it has grown to an event that draws almost 2000 horses every year. All riding and driving disciplines are represented at the show, ranging from halter to hunter and everything in between. Vendors also set up booths here, offering a dazzling array of merchandise. Many great stallions and mares have been introduced through this show, and successive generations will undoubtedly do the same.
It is a wonderful show for both people and horses alike. The show itself is run by the Arabian Horse Association of Arizona. Purebreds, half-Arabians and Anglo-Arabians are all welcome to enter into classes and show their stuff. Riders of all ages have a wide choice of classes to choose from. Simply put, there is something for everyone and their equine partner. This is the place for all comers to put on their best for everyone to see. The show is known for an amazing and wonderful atmosphere. The words glitz and glamor only begins to describe the spectacle that is put on. Every year, all eyes are on Scottsdale.
The event is staged at WestWorld, an arena that is well suited to the showing of horses. It runs every year during February, with the start date being around the 10th of the month. It’s the perfect time of the year to scout out a prospective stallion to produce next year’s foal. Scottsdale is located just to the north east of Phoenix, putting it within easy reach of Sky Harbor airport. WestWorld is located on at Frank Lloyd Wright and Loop 101.
Anne McCormick is the primary party that is responsible for the creation of the association and the show. After living in the north for many years, she and her husband decided to buy land in Arizona for the winter. They purchased 160 acres and named it the McCormick Ranch. Her primary interest was in raising horses, and started out out by crossing the Arabian stallion Mustafa on Saddlebred mares. The rest became history as she and others started the Arizona Arabian Horse Association and the Arabian Horse Show.
Everyone should go at least once in their lifetime to experience the joy that is the Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show.
